What do you get when you combine 20 actors ages 5-75, 7 plays, 5 directors, and 1 terrific theater? Play Fair 2008. Rehearsals are off to a great start as we welcome actors new and old to the STS stage. Folks from places as exotic as Brooklyn, Maine, California, Arkansas, and Connecticut have found their way to Phoenicia this summer and joined us in the endeavor.

We were pleased to receive over 40 plays this year. Having narrowed things down to an evening of theater that promises to run under two hours, we are boasting an eclectic offering of plays this year, including Lewis Gardner's Pete and Joe at the Dew Drop Inn, Jeffrey Cooper's A Taste of Paradise, Samantha Berkley's Au Revoir, Special Education, Kate McCamy's The Bridge, Victoria Sullivan's The Meet, Sara Cooper's A Corpse In the Kitchen, and Michael Monasterial's Smoke Gets In Your Eyes. Themes range from two guys at a bar discussing the progression of romantic relationships to three people discussing the inevitability of hopelessness on a desert island. You won't want to miss the suicidal woman's dialogue with God, the collision of American and Russian societal pressures at the park in Prague, or one woman's internal struggle with her career choice within the New York City education system.

Play Fair runs August 22-24 and 29-31. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8pm and Sunday performances are at 4pm. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for members, students, and seniors. Come back for a second performance and get a half price ticket! This year, plays will be presented on a rotating basis with 6 plays each night, so no two evenings are alike. We'll be kicking off the festival on Friday at 7pm with an original piece by the 2008 STS Theater Camp; admission to this is free and it would be great to have a good crowd to support the kids. Also, you'll be able to catch all seven plays in one afternoon for a final showing on Sunday, August 31.
